CHAPTER 31 "The Get-Well Card"

After a heart attack, Lebensmal is hospitalized for three weeks and bedridden for a year. Work is "out of the question". Walter is surprised that Elizabeth was there and called the ambulance. Despite Walter's warnings, she met Lebensmal alone in the evening.

Elizabeth tells Walter that Lebensmal fired them all before trying to assault her, but he had a heart attack at Elizabeth's knife. While waiting for the ambulance, Elizabeth looked for syndication and sponsorship offers in Lebensmal's office. Contrary to Lebensmal's claims, the show was doing well.

Walter syndicates Supper at Six nationwide and negotiates lucrative sponsorship deals as acting executive producer. He informs KCTV of Lebensmal's heart attack, which is applauded. They send Lebensmal a get-well card signed by everyone, some of which show how much the channel hated him. Walter writes, “MAY YOU NEVER RECOVER,” emboldened by this and Elizabeth's simple advice to do the right thing when he started his new job.
