CHAPTER 32 "Medium Rare"
Harriet forges Elizabeth's signature and sneaks Madeline out of school to watch her mom live on Supper at Six. Unnoticed, they'll enter through the emergency exit and sit in the back row.
Harriet and Madeline arrive to a huge crowd waiting to see Supper at Six, but Seymour Browne, a security guard, tells them that the studio audience has already been selected and they can't enter. Madeline asks the guard to write his name in her notebook so she can tell her mother how hard his job is. Seymour obliges and is surprised to see Madeline's surname on the notebook.
Harriet and Madeline are immediately ushered in and given front-row seats by Walter's secretary. They agree after being assured that Elizabeth can't see her audience due to the blinding lights. Madeline is proud to watch Elizabeth run the show, but she's jealous that so many people get to see her mother on TV.
Walter meets with Harriet and Madeline to find out why Madeline isn't in school. Elizabeth will be furious if she finds Madeline on the set, but Walter explains that Elizabeth is trying to protect Madeline from fame's lack of privacy. Madeline asks Walter why Elizabeth is so popular, and Walter says it's because she cooks well and says what she thinks, which is rare. Elizabeth reveals that she is an atheist in response to an audience question at the end of the show, and Walter receives many phone calls.
